Laughing Buddha Trading was established in September of 2006 as a Right Livelihood business. The Buddhist non-profit company Wildmind decided to sell its online Amazon-based retail business and was looking for someone to maintain their high standards of quality and ethics. As a long-time Buddhist practitioner, as well as a friend of the team at Wildmind, Bill McGuire felt the opportunity to continue supporting the efforts of meditators with quality meditation supplies was too good to miss!
Josh Nute, a long-time member of Wildmind, and Steve Cardwell helped launch the fledgling Laughing Buddha Trading. Josh was invaluable in setting up and streamlining inventory and shipping processes while Steve helped get the accounting on track. Cliff Hazen, another Wildmind alumnus, helped bring up the website and is our current Webmaster.
The business outgrew it's Southern Maine home in 2008 and moved to Central Maine. This move also gave us the physical space to establish a woodworking shop where all our benches are made. We continue to expand our product line with helpful, quality items and enjoy supporting the meditation practices of our many customers.
